Let me just say we're settled and having a great 2008 so far. One night, shortly after we moved in, I lay in bed, staring at our cozy viga ceiling and counted how many places I'd lived in. I came up with 12—and this place makes Lucky 13. Aside from the farmhouse where I grew up, this is the best place I've ever lived. I think the thing I like best of all is that it's about 60 years old, which means no drywall, no el cheapo white carpeting, no tupperware bathtub. This place was built to last, baby, and we love the wood floors, beamed ceilings, kitchen and bath tile—and best of all in winter—the fireplace. I sound like I'm bragging. I don't mean to. What I'm trying to say is this place is SUBSTANTIAL. The closet doors close with a thud instead of a fffttt. Know what I mean?

Thanks for that. Funny thing is, the house-buying market is great right now. The only thing that keeps us from shopping in earnest is that if we bought our dream house, we'd have to move all our stuff again! For now, this one is close enough.
